Carmen San Segundo

SVP, Global Head of Communications and Chief of Staff

Carmen San Segundo joined Carbon Measures in December 2025 after more than 15 years leading global communications strategies for some of the world's most influential organizations. She brings a deep expertise in translating complex technology and sustainability initiatives into clear, compelling narratives that drive meaningful impact.

Most recently, Carmen served as Global Corporate Communications and Marketing Director for ESG, Sustainability, and CSR at IBM. In that role, she built IBM's ESG and Sustainability communications practice from the ground up. She also shaped the company’s creative media strategy at major global forums, including COP26 through COP29, the UN General Assembly, and Climate Week 2024.

Carmen excels at bridging complex innovation with public understanding. She has held leadership roles at LLYC, MERCO, Repsol, and Kellogg, guiding global communications programs for initiatives such as IBM Sustainability Accelerator and Kellogg's Breakfast for Better Days. She has also led sustainability communications at CEMEX, Smurfit Kappa, and Repsol, and has developed executive communications strategies for C-suite leaders across sectors, including IBM's Chief Impact Officer, Chief Sustainability Officer, and Latin America General Manager. 

Carmen serves as a Board Member and Advisor to MERCO, supporting U.S. market entry strategy and media partnerships. She judged PR Week's 2025 Purpose Awards and has spoken at PRSA ICON on the role of AI in communications. Her recognitions include The Rising Star Women Leaders of Communications by Women We Admire (2024), Top Latino Executive by Latino Leaders Magazine (2023), and PR Week’s Women to Watch (2022).

Originally from Madrid, Carmen holds a master's degree in Public Relations and Corporate Communications from Georgetown University and dual bachelor's degrees in Marketing and Business Administration from Universidad de Rey Juan Carlos and Universidad Pontifica Comillas. She brings a global perspective shaped by experience across the United States, Latin America, and Europe. She is driven by the belief that powerful storytelling grounded in data and authenticity can mobilize organizations to take urgent climate action.
